Figurative language in my sisters keeper

A metaphor is a comparison between two non related things without using the words like or as.
"The room is a sea of dirty cloths and magazines and leftover Chinese take- out cartons" (14).
"The saline pumps her up from the inside out, a baloon to be inflated" (70).
"Her voice is a feather, a thread" (70).
"My apartment, it is a work of art." (75)
"I weave in and out of traffic, sewing up a scar." (93)

A simile is a comparison between two non related things using the words like or as.
"it just clamps shut like the Jaws of Life." (9)
"but it's hibernating under her skin like a bear, until it decides to roar again." (10)
It comes out in a thick clump, like a small blizzard. (67)
 "It's like riding a bicycle."  (82).
"He's asleep, curled like a braided rug to the left of my desk"  (117)
